Ci vuole tempo, si lavora per mesi, giorno dopo giorno, qualche volta ti sembra di non aver concluso nulla. Poi succede, e ti senti bene, tutti quei giorni e riunioni e chiacchiere hanno prodotto qualcosa, e pensi che tutto sommato ne è valsa la pena di spendere tutto quel tempo.
Ieri Microsoft e Sourcesense, un'azienda che offre servizi di consulenza su tecnologie open source, hanno raggiunto un accordo per creare una comunità che svilupperà delle librerie Java per produrre documenti in formati Office OpenXML.

Il primo incontro per capire se c'era spazio per collaborazioni lo facemmo quasi un anno fa: due culture che cercavano di trovare dei punti di vista comuni, un modo per collaborare. Per questo ho scelto quel titolo: per me quest'accordo è come un ponte che collega due mondi, con modelli e punti di vista diversi, ma è anche la prova che questi mondi possono parlarsi, nell'interesse di un ecosistema più ampio.
Le librerie saranno rilasciate con una licenza Apache 2.0 e per chi voglia unirsi alla community o verificare di tanto in tanto come procedono i lavori, questo è il sito dove saranno messi i sorgenti: http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/poi/branches/ che è una branch del progetto POI
Ringrazio ancora Gianugo Rabellino di Sourcesense e tutti coloro che hanno reso questo accordo possibile (grazie Marco e Roberto) e spero che questo sia solo un altro mattone per costruire un ponte ancora più solido.

It takes time, you work for months, days after days, sometime you feel like you are doing nothing. But then something happens, and you fill fine, all those days and meetings and talks produce something, and you think it was worth spending all that time.
Microsoft and Sourcesense, a company delivering consultancy on open source software, reached today an agreement to create a community to develop Java libraries to produce Office OpenXML documents.

The very first meeting on this possible collaboration took place about a year ago: two cultures which were trying to find a common point, a way to cooperate. That's why the title: this agreement for me is like a bridge which connect two worlds, with different models and point of view, but this is also the proof that these two worlds can talk to each other, for the interest of a broader ecosystem.
The libraries will be released under the Apache 2.0 license and for whom would like to join the community or monitor progress this is the link where the source code will be placed http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/poi/branches/ as a branch of the POI project.
